Smack My Bitch Up

“Change my pitch up, smack my bitch up”
— Prodigy

Check out the video of this innovative MacBook Pro hack that abuses the laptop’s motion sensor to act as a switch for virtual desktops.

The patches to the virtual desktop code are available over at Medallia Blog. I love this quote:

Turns out, the laptop has a built-in motion sensor. Nominally, it’s there to protect the internal hard drive. The basic idea is this: If the accelerometer suddenly notices that the gravitational pull of earth is no longer present, the most likely explanation is that the laptop, sensor and all, is currently accelerating at 9.81 m/s² towards said earth. In that case, it will (wisely) try to turn the hard drive off in preparation for impact.

It can, however, also be used in situations not involving lobbing the laptop across the room, fun though that may be.

For those of you with this laptop *cough*Delg*cough* … why don’t you give it a try, huh?

Wiisistance is Futile!

Sony announced another reason to buy a Wii today, you know that game you bought for $70 for your horridly overpriced PS3? It will be illegal for you to resell it and try to recoup your losses (whether the game turns out to be crap or not). So sayeth Sony. It was nice knowing you Sony, it really was.

Comicbooks 2 TV

Interesting new anime series is being Fan Subbed by a relatively unknown Fan Sub group Bakakozou: Witchblade. It is based on the Witchblade comic series by Top Cow.

Speaking about comic Comicbook to TV Series change overs, has anyone else heard about this:

Anyone else getting a Season 1 Highlander vibe from this one (re: poor acting) Don’t get me wrong, I still want to watch it on June 28th, but I was wondering if anyone else was getting, you know, the vibe.

Goodbye TV

TV is dead. Long live TV.

Alright, this all started with me playing around on YouTube ’cause Jin597 posted an article on MicroTitan about This Hour Has 22 Minute’s famous Apology to Americans. As you may recall, I blogged about this two and a half years ago and linked to the CBC’s website directly. However, the CBC is a bunch of pricks and they stopped hosting their own video clip. WTF.

So I wanted to archive this in case YouTube goes under. Which is possible since they are burning through the cash. That lead me to the wonderful VideoDownloader Firefox Extension for Firefox. And yesterday I found the great FLV player, Video Flash Player. Combined together, I have a great archiving ability now.

So while archiving things like Wii Lightsabers, Rock It Penguin, Dr Tran and Microsoft’s iPod Parody, I stumbled across this video:

Great huh? In a related topic, you guys noticed that Bush wants to send 6000 National Guard troops to secure the US-Mexican border right? In any case, the video clip is produced by a site called The Current. On The Current, I found a really neat program called Google Current. The episode from the 12th of May (2006) led me ZeFrank’s The Show. All in all, this stuff is better than 90% of the stuff on my TV. I just have to find ZeFrank’s Canadian Equivalent and the last TV show I watch live (CTV News 1) is toast.

Ze Show?

Ze has a great video on how to vent in an email without saying anything bad… all it requires is a code. Check it out.

If you liked that, be sure to check out Frank’s Videolog “The Show,” in particular this one on the US domestic “survelliance” scandal. Or how about this one with “essential german phrases?”

They are all great. Check out ze show … ;)

Flash 8

What advantage does Flash 8 have over Flash 7 beside the fact that Flash 8 is windows/mac only? I’m am getting really damn sick of all these sites suddenly requiring Flash 8. It worked fine under Flash 7 … you went to trouble to recompile to Flash 8 … and it still looks the same when I get there with a Flash 8 compatible browser under Windows. All you are doing it severely pissing me (and any other linux user) off. All we get are the annoying Flash Ad/Spam crap that has originated recently, but not any content. Is Macromedia to blame? No, not really. They have stated that they had to skip version 8 for linux because they had to rewrite the entire plug from the ground up to be GCC compatible (it is how they are now compiling it for Windows and Mac OS X as well now). They are also working on the 64-bit version, but it is still delayed in Garbage Collection and problems with the JIT. They are trying as hard as a commercial company can, and I’m thankful. But what I hate is the requirement that some fuckheads have decided to impose on me. “This site requires Flash 8, download here.” Fuck you. Fuck you up the ass with a hot poker Edward II style cocksuckers.

What Is In A Name?

“A rose by any other name would still smell as sweat …”

Wii

So the Wii isn’t as good a name as Revolution, but after reading the detailed information on the Wii that has been compiled in this article, I notice a never before mentioned SD Card reader (used to “expand internal flash memory”). Add to this Hudson’s 100 games for the virtual console announcement, the Wii is still going to be a “sweat” little system. I want one, even if it requires, as Tocsic put it, “making a wii adjustment to [the] budget.”

Oooh La La

LG GalSexy, thin, and what a body. LG releases it’s new T1 Express Dual Laptop and what a laptop. At 21.5mm thick, it is a very thin laptop. Check it out.

Crammed into that small form factor is a DVD burner, a 1.5GHz Core Duo L2300 processor, a 5-in-1 memory card slot reader, a fingerprint sensor, next gen bluetooth, and Wifi. It also has a couple of widescreen resolutions: 1280×800 WXGA or 1440×900 WXGA+ . That also claim you put in 4GB of RAM. It also weights in at an amazing 1.9kg.

Chipset wise, it has a Intel GMA 950 Graphics card, A Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG WiFi card and for audio it says has a lot of confusing names (some are probably chipsets, others are buzzword sounds model names). There are either a lot of options for the audio subsystem, or they are claiming it does everything but make coffee. The essential bit is that it does 5.1 Dolby digital. I have the sneaking suspicion that this would be a system that one could easily get Mac OS X running on correctly. It is a shame that Apple won’t sell the OS for non-Apple laptops.

All I have to say about this laptop, though, is “Oooh La La.”

Oh, and here is a korean ad for the T1:

You might also want to see the review over on Notebook Review.

They are also currently in stock at Milestone PC here for $1789.00 (recent price match price thanks to the review mentioned above) and will soon be at NCIX here for $1,865.91 $1,699.99 (it is on sale until tomorrow).

The day the axe came down

Here is a list of shows I’m watching this year that croaked:

NBC: Heist and The Book of Daniel (no suprises here since both shows stopped airing new episodes before they were done their run)

ABC: Invasion (also not a surpise to anyone who has attempted to watch the show)

CBS: Threshold (also not a surprise since we haven’t had a new episode in six months, but I’m going to miss this show. It was incredibly well done).

The CW (used to be UPN or WB): Modern Men

Survivors:

NBC: My Name is Earl, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica

ABC: What About Brian, Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Lost

CBS: Ghost Whisperer and How I Met Your Mother

FOX: 24, American Dad, Family Guy, House, The OC, Prison Break (and it deserves honourable mention for surviving though I stopped watching it early into it’s season: Bones)

The CW: Everybody Hates Chris, Supernatural, Veronica Mars, Smallville (?)

The unknowns are as such:

NBC: Surface

ABC: Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives (yah, like that is being cancelled, I’ve already heard talk about the third season, however they haven’t officially stated it isn’t being cancelled), Lost (Like Desperate Housewives, heard already about the third season, but it hasn’t be offically stated it isn’t being cancelled).

The CW: Everybody Hates Chris, Modern Men (not likely to make it), Supernatural, Veronica Mars (it is a rather low rated, but steady show, might not survive the merger). All of these will be decided on May 18th.

Movie Network: Regenesis
