Cory Doctrow is a great writer. One of his short stories was published by Salon in 2004 under the creative commons license, and I just found a copy of it that doesn’t require one to go through the trouble of a Salon registration. Have a read, especially if you’re addicted to MMORPG’s.

I’m not, but damn you, now I want to go and play WoW. I will send this to some junkies though, so they can be ever so slightly vindicated. It actually does a semi-ok job of giving a feel for how such things are actually rather more fun than they appear to the casual observer, something like this garnering a widespread audience might actually give them a margin of social legitimacy. Heh.

Yes. I recall a similar model existing in .hack//SIGN and Tad William’s Otherland. People in an online world making a living playing their game. I really like the idea, and yet, I find it kind of creepy.
