Cool Signs

These signs look quite official at first; they’re very well done. I can just imagine the responses some of them got :-).

Video Google

So I discovered video.google.com today. Very cool site. Wandering around, you can find amusing things like this commercial or this video clip from a tv show. Hell, you can even find full length movies (okay, a very long collection of AMV videos like this one). However, the real gem today has to be the video clip of smart car crash test. What happens when a smart car slams into a concrete wall at 70mph? have a look.

What’s the Buzz?…

“What’s the Buzz? The Buzz is good.” No, it isn’t Buzz Beer. It’s a little more erotic than that (but, yes, I know… on occassion beer can lead to erotic adventures. “I’ve got my beer goggles on! Am I sexy?!” - Rocko, Undergrads.) I digress. In a moment I will. Anyway, I first heard about this from Plurk, so I researched it. It’s a nifty add-on for your iPod for adults. Interested? Have a peak here. According the “The Unofficial Apple Weblog - TUAW”, the link is “Work Safe,” but… I’ll leave it up to you.

Star Wreck

Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning (aka Star Wreck VI) is one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a long time. This is a full length Finnish parody of both Star Trek and Babylon 5 created by Samuli Torssonen is absolutely priceless. The special effects are amazing and the climax of the movie is a massive battle between Star Trek and Babylon 5 vessels. The movie has been released on DVD as well as online and is available under the Creative Commons License. Check it out, it’s worth the wait to download … Especially if you are fan of either series. :)

Finally!

This is almost what I want, but with more shows and current ones as well. Warner Bros’ is launching In2TV next year with over 100 of their vintage TV shows available for (streaming)? via some sort of P2P bandwidth sharing thing. The shows will be supported by a 2 minute commercial per 30 minute show (better than the current 8 min per 30 min). The service will be free … and will include shows such as the Fugitive, Babylon 5, V, Lois & Clark, La Femme Nikita, Pinky and the Brain, and Beetlejuice. I’d prefer to pay a US$1 fee to skip the commercials and/or have the ability to save the file to my computer, but this is definitely something good. At the very least, I can finally watch The Adventures of Brisco County Jr … which for those of you who don’t know starred Bruce Campbell…. Which reminds me, I want to read his new book Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way. Should be at least as good as If Chins Could Kill, Confessions of A B-Movie Actor (which was surpisingly signed … not sure if that is normal or not …)

Teach Yourself Programming in 10 Years

Teach Yourself Programming in Ten Years is an interesting article that examines these ubiquitous “Teach Yourself *blank* in n Days” books that are so popular these days. It presents the opinion — one with which I agree — that these give you at best a superficial understanding, and real learning takes much longer.
