How to Loathe Drawing Manga Style
Posted by Jin597 in Uncategorized on August 29th, 2005
I was reading Applegeeks today and came across a comment by Anath (one of the writers). There is a fairly recent addition to the web-com world… How to Loathe Drawing Manga Style.
I found this particular strip to be quite good. Why?… well, has anyone noticed the abrubt change in style to Applegeeks?… I miss the old style drawing… not the new “batman-ish” style. So, this strip (as Anath pointed out on Applegeeks) pokes at Hawk’s (Applegeeks artist) new style… but by no means directed at Applegeeks. Anyway, looks like a good new strip (even though only about 5 made so far). As for Applegeeks… please go back to the original drawings… it was so much nicer.
Legal TV Show Downloads from the BBC

The BBC’s TV channels will be made available on the internet, BBC Director General Mark Thompson has confirmed. He announced plans for the MyBBCPlayer - which will allow viewers to legally download seven days of programmes - at the Edinburgh Television Festival. He said he hoped the service would launch next year. …
A BBC spokesman said the corporation was aiming to simulcast a channel permanently but would restrict it to UK viewers only.
MacGyver for US President

This is an amusing site. Someone has setup a site for MacGyver 2008, extolling the virtues of a god among men and why people should vote for him in the 2008 election ;). I particularly liked the line: “Macgyver had a near-death experience with the mortal incarnation of the Egyptian god Anubis.”

Ali G tackles Pamela Anderson
Posted by plurk in Uncategorized on August 25th, 2005

Sacha Baron Cohen was dunked in the sea by Pamela Anderson’s bodyguards - after rugby-tackling the actress at her dogs’ wedding. The Ali G star was dressed as his other creation, cringe-inducing Kazakhstani TV journalist Borat, when he pulled the stunt. Cohen, 33, in trunks, leather jacket and Village People-style cap, emerged from the surf on an inflatable turtle. His rugby tackle sent Pammie, 38, hurtling to the sand on the beach at Malibu, California. Concerned security men grabbed the comedian and dragged him into the sea. Pam was presiding over the nuptials of her golden retriever Star to chihuahua Luca.

They call it BlueCasting, and it is the spawn of Satan. A trial billboard in the UK has been offering to BlueCast additional adverstising information to people with bluetooth enabled devices. About 17% of the bluetooth devices it detected accepted. Not what I’d call a stellar success, but there are plans to make this technology more prevalent and this fills me with fear for the future. Any technology has a darker side, and BlueCasting, for what I understand, has no light side ;). As some of you might recall Cabir was the world’s first Bluetooth Worm. “[S]ecurity researchers reckon many handsets [became] infected [with Cabir] simply because users get fed up with being prompted to allow a [bluetooth] connection.”* Remember, the Wizard’s First Rule is that People Are Stupid. If Cabir proved anything it is if you bug people with Bluetooth connections, they’ll accept them. And that’s assuming they’ve secured their device. I can see spammers of the 21st century take great advantage of this proximity based technology. Worse, someone could hack one of these billboards to act as their own little virus spawners. When the user accepts the connection to get information on ordering concert tickets (for example), it transmits the virus instead.
Mark my words, people will grow to hate BlueCasting … and unlike e-mail, I don’t see any good reason for it.

Google Talk

I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords. I’d like to remind them that as a trusted TV personality I could be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves.
— Kent Brockman in The Simpsons Episode “Deep Space Homer”
As rumoured, Google entered into the IM arena yesterday with Google Talk. It uses the XMPP protocol and thus any client which speaks XMPP (*cough*Gaim*cough*Any Jabber Client*cough*) can talk to users on Google Talk. If you have a google mail account, you already have a Google Talk account. Unlike most other Instant Messenger Clients, Google Talk also includes instructions on their site on how to set up other popular Jabber clients (Let’s see Microsoft do that! :P). The only problem is voice talk doesn’t work unless your using Google Talk. I’m hoping it won’t take long for GAIM and the other to fix that deficiency.
