Coming Next Fall …

I’m not sure if anyone has noticed the list of new TV shows hitting the markets this fall, but I’d like to highlight a few for you:

How I Met Your Mother: This is a romantic comedy coming to ABC in the fall. The only thing of note really is that the cast list includes Neil Patrick Harris & Allison Hannigan. That alone has caused it to be added to my list of shows to check out.

Ghost Whisperer: This show stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and by the sounds of things is very much in line with Tru Calling. It airs this fall on CBS.

Theshold: Okay, now this one is cool. Let me first start with two people staring in it: Carla Gugino, and Brent Spiner. For those of you who are not sure who Carla Gugino, I could mention Karen Sisco, but you’ll likely remember her better as Marv’s lesbian parole officer Lucille in Sin City. And if you don’t know who Brent Spiner is … hang your head in shame. David Goyer (of Blade I/II/III fame) is also associated with this show, but I’m not sure how heavily. In any case, back to the show. Sci-Fi, of course. A space craft has set down in the middle of the ocean (which ocean? no idea) in modern day(?). Anyway, Gugino is a first-contact contingency specialist and heads up a team which is to make first-contact with the ship. This show airs on Fri. Sept 2nd, at 9pm EST on CBS.

The Unit: I’m not overly sure exactly what this show is about, but it is created by the same guy who did The Shield, and it stars Amy Acker (Angel for those of you not following at home) and Robert Patrick (T2, X-Files). I’m willing to give it a chance.

Invasion: I don’t recognize anyone who is in this series, but it appears to be sort of along the same lines as Arrival. Basically aliens start invading a small Florida town during a storm. Anywho, a trailer for it exists here (when did TV shows get trailers?! … not that it’s much of a trailer … ). Anywho, it sounds like the basic “They Are Among Us” sci-fi plot. Still, I’ll check it out. ABC, this fall.

Night Stalker: Okay, I must admit this one got me with it’s name. Basically this is a remake of the 1970’s series Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Sounds good to me. ABC This fall.

Prison Break: Now this is one of the coolest ones coming out in my opinion. A structural engineer’s brother was, in his opinion, wrongfully convicted of murder and is currently sitting on death row. Now he’ll do anything to get his brother out of his prison … Having studied the structural plans to the prison (in one of the ads it sounded like he designed the prison, but it appears not to be the case in the TV Tome entry), he plans to break his brother out. The catch? He has to get into the prison to get his brother out. What ensues next would make the Stainless Steel Rat proud. In any case, it’s very unique premise … The catch? It’s on Fox.

Four Kings: Now this show is about four single guys living in New York. Nothing overly special, but it includes Seth Green in it’s cast list so it’s worth checking out.

Fathom: Okay, one of the things that attracted my attention to this one was the description that it’s similar to Cameron’s Abyss (cool movie IMO). In addition to that, the $7 million price tag for the pilot (the highest of the fall) means it should have some decent special effects … and maybe actors too. As with some of the others, this is a check out one on my list. Apparently it will air just before Las Vegas on NBC on Monday nights this fall.
