iMac G5 & Skype
Posted by plurk in Uncategorized on August 31st, 2004
Two bits of Mac news for those who are interested, the new iMac’s are out with their shiny G5 processors.
I must admit I liked the older G4 design better, but I definitely like the new iMac’s processor power.
Still on the Mac front, a new version of Skype was just released for MacOSX. Skype is a VoIP program for MacOS X which looks much like MSN, but for internet telephones … Looks pretty cool … and it free.
The Night of the Living Dead!

“The Night of the Living Dead”, a classic 1968 horror film, is now public domain. It was a landmark film … and has zombies … so you might want to go download it.
Neutrotically Yours
Posted by plurk in Uncategorized on August 26th, 2004
In my stumblings I also found an animated cartoon online entitled Neutrotically Yours by Jonathan Ian Mathers. It is really really twisted, but good. Like Jhonen Vasquez, just animated1. The only problem is the archive only goes back to episode 12 … there is a DVD out now with the first 40 episodes on it for US$20 … so I might just buy it … not overly sure.
1: It was pointed out that Invader Zim is animated … the sentance is all wrong but you know what I mean … Vasquez has animated/non-animated … Mathers only has animated. *sigh* They have the same sense of … screw it, just watch the cartoons.

PearPC Review
Posted by Jin597 in Uncategorized on August 24th, 2004
Ok, so I finally got PearPC to work. What is PearPC? It is a PowerPC emulator on x86. English?… run Mac OS X/PPC Linux/etc on over windows (or x86 linux). I must say, that the web site’s documentation regarding installation needs to be “refined.” Originally I was playing with v0.2.0 and was having a cracker of time with it… then I noticed today 0.3.0… well, not much improvement in terms of documentation and setup, however, runs much smoother! In fact, in “nearly” runs as fast as my G4 350. Poor G4… will need a good ol’ Irish wake for it soon… once the G5 arrives that is. Anyway, PearPC. It’s neat… it’s pretty smooth… improvements I would like to see:
- Right Click on my 2 mouse button to work
- Full use of my CD drive rather than using .iso files
- Better network support
- Better documentation
Take a peak ^_^
… you may be the victim of spyware
Posted by plurk in Uncategorized on August 24th, 2004
I was on Microsoft’s site today looking for SP2 to update my work computer. While I’m sure the university has a nice update program already, my system, for whatever reason, is disconnected from the Novell Zenworks distribution system thingy. While I was there I notice this link on how to Fight Spyware (at home). Besides the amusing picture of a guy in a mask sitting at a laptop, the first article linked begins
“If your computer suddenly begins to display hundreds of pop-up ads, you may be the victim of spyware.”
and I instantly thought of Jeff Foxworthy’s “You Might Be A Redneck”. Okay, so this is a lame post, but I thought it was amusing at the time. TTYL.
New Movie Trailers

Blade: Trinity
Not sure if this trailer has been seen by others yet, so I thought I’d post it. Too bad there isn’t more of a sneak-peak at it.
Saw
I never imagined Danny Glover in a suspense movie like this, but from the looks of it, a good suspense
Finding Neverland
Ok, some of you are probably going, “HUH??? Peter Pan???” But hey, I’ve always been a fan of The Pan… and this movie stars Johnny Depp. This is more of a movie about the author of the story Peter Pan than it is about Peter Pan
Phantom of the Opera
Yes… it’s now a movie. I have never been a fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber… so, I don’t have much interest in the movie, even if Jerry Bruckheimer made it. Although, for those who do like it, like my brother, this movie is a shoe in for another band wagon hoping by a many a person
Suspect Zero
This looks like a great movie… lots of wierd mind tricks… and oh yeah, Carrie-Anne Moss
A Dirty Shame
“My Name is Ray-Ray, and I’m hear to service you” … I’ll let you see what I mean.
Meet the Fockers
I can’t remember what the name of the prequel to this movie is, but I remember it was mildly amusing. The sequel looks equally as amusing.
Saints and Soldiers
WWII movie… I rarely watch these, but this one looks interesting
Ju-On
I recalled seeing a second clip of this on a Space commercial for International Film Festival in Ontario. Anyway, it’s by the same guy that made “Ringu.” It almost seems to be on the same lines as Ringu… either way, looks good. Just as “Ringu” was remade by hollywood, so is “Ju-on”… only hollywood calls it “The Grudge.” Interestingly enough, they decided to keep the setting Japan, but flew in Sarah Michelle Gellar to play the lead role. I don’t know about that move… I mean, I’m gonna be expecting her to pull a stake or something… or Angel or Spike popping in to help slay the evil black cloud…. If a movie is good, don’t remake it for N. America… subtitle it… people can read!
